Acquired Brain Injury
SPA offers neuropsychological assessment and treatment to children and adolescents with congenital and acquired brain injury, which may be the result of traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, stroke, central nervous system infection, brain tumour, or medical conditions affecting the central nervous system, e.g. sickle cell, thalassemia renal and liver disorders.
Many of the individuals seen in this clinic also have co-occurring behavioural and/ or emotional difficulties that benefit from a psychiatric evaluation and treatment. Assessments are tailored to the needs of the individual, and can help identify temporary and/or long-term learning, emotional and behaviour issues associated with brain injury and related treatment. An evaluation takes from as few as one to two hours to as many as eight hours depending on the referral question.
